We hadn’t thought about Woodlawn in years until a good friend moved there (in 2010) from Charleston a little over a year ago (the very hip and talented Magic City Mama)! Bob remembered the Woodlawn of over 50 years ago, when it was the location of a much anticipated visit to his cousins’ house. Back then, spontaneous football was played after hours on the high school fields, neighbors sat on front porches and watched over the kids who traveled from one yard to another, and the trains were an ever present backdrop. It was truly Mayberry back then, but over the years homes were neglected and abandoned, the once bustling retail shops moved to the suburbs, and the beautiful Woodlawn High School
The good news is, Woodlawn is experiencing a resurgence, largely due to the enthusiasm, talent, and energy of a LOT of cool people who have made it their home.
